Question
I have a 5 yr old male neutered chihuahua which I have had since he was 8 wks old.  He is crate trained but will pee & poop whereever he pleases.  He will go in the house right after he has bone outside.  I've tried the potty pads with no luck.  Needless to say I am tired of cleaning up after him and my husband has given me an ultimatum, it's him or the dog!  Any advice you can give will be g

Answer
If it's a choice between your husband and the dog, I'd go with the dog.  If you really want to keep your husband and the dog, the first thing I would do is get the dog checked medically.  If all checks out, then I'd go back to basic house training practices as if you were working with a puppy.  Crate the dog whenever you're not home or can't watch him.  Take him out first thing in the morning, after he eats or drinks and whenever he wakes up from a nap.  When you take him out, take him out on leash, give him a couple of minutes to go.  If he doesn't, take him back in and put him in his crate (no fanfare, no emotions, no "bad boy", just put him in and close door).  Wait a little while, take him back out.  If he goes, he gets great rewards (whatever that is for your dog, could be praise, ear scritches, food or a favorite toy).  If he goes, he can stay outside for while, if he likes being out, or can come in with you and not go in the crate.  The secret is patience and consistency.  Good luck.
