First female dog (Boxer)

Question
I was recently given a 7 month old female boxer, the dog is a great dog but I've never owned a female dog.  Two Questions, (1) she hasn't had her first season yet, how do I know it's coming/here and what do I do?  (2) She jumps up on people a lot how can I curb this behavior?
