4 mo Old Beagle Mix / panting

I have a 4 month old Beagle/Poodle mix.  It is night time it is very warm outside
and he was breathing very fast and his heart was beating fast as well.  I woke
him up and held him for a bit and now he is breathing normal.  He had kennel
cough when we got him and I am just a nervous wreck that he will always have
something wrong.  Is this something that I should worry about?

How long has it been since he has had kennel cough? It could be a bit of left over congestion that is bothering him.

If you had to wake him up, it's probably nothing to worry about. It could be he was dreaming and once fully awake, he settled down.

I would probably advise you to just keep an eye on him. If for any reason you see a change in behavior (lethary, vomiting, diarrhea, not eating and drinking normally), then take him to the vet, but if he seems otherwise normal, I don't think you should worry.

Kennel cough should not have any lasting affects on him physically.
