house training my pomchi

Hi Kristin
I have a 2 1/2 month pomchi who I am just starting to potty train with the doggy litter box.  I have read everywhere that I have to crate him in order to effectively train him do you have any advise for me as far as not having to crate him.  My pomchi is free to roam around the house all day but is supervised all day, what kind of tips do you have for us.

While crating is recommended there are alternatives

One is to do it the old fashion way-with papers,this is actually a better way of doing it if you plan on litter box training,what you do is put the papers down where you plan on putting the box down,then once he goes there for about a week without making accidents else were then try putting the box down for him

also it might help to keep him in one room,or to use a large puppy playpen that way he can wander,but not all the house and make accidents everywhere

I think since you want to litter train him,these methods will work better for you,and thats what I would tell you to do anyways,crates are better for outside training,but crates don't work for all dogs,so I have to use these methods on some dogs,and it's usually successful
