Question

Dog
My ShihPom is 2 and weighs 5lbs. We've had him for a year now and just this past Monday he started gasping for air, wheezing, making a congested like sound when he breathes, and a snoring noise when sleeps. He has never done this! That same Monday, he went to the vet to have his teeth cleaned and was put under ansthesia, my vet said the procedure had nothing to do with the breathing problems he is having now, that he just has a swollen nasal passage, but he didn't have ANY of these symptoms when I dropped him off at the vet, or EVER before since we've had him. I don't know what's going on with him. He's eating and using the bathroom. He's barking, it sounds a little different, but maybe im just paranoid. He's just not as lively as usual and appears to be sleeping more and I thought maybe it was because of the anesthesia, but i'm starting to get worried. He's never done anything like this and he's never appeared to have trouble breathing; he's a young rowdy, hyper, lively dog and now he seems down in the dumps and is making these really odd noises. Even when you grab him to hold him he makes these congested like sounds, or you can hear congesion like sounds. His symptoms would be described as Bronchitis in humans, but that's the best way I can describe how he's acting. And as a reminder, all this happened after the trip to the vet, and not once before. Please help, he's my baby and my first dog and I'm not very knowledgeable to canines.

Answer
I would say that something certainly happened there... either something they did or possibly the dog picked up some "bug" there, although coming down with something that same day would be highly unusual. Possibly it is just coincidental that this happened on the same day.

At any rate, I would get a second opinion on this. Find a different vet. There might be some meds that would help your dog breathe a little easier.
