Question
Hey, my name is Thomas and I have a minuture schauzer and he is not putting any weight on it at all. What can I do to get it fixed or see if it is broken? Please respond quick

Answer
First check his foot over carefully for any broken nails, something stuck between the pads of his foot, or any punctures. It it a front leg or rear? Carefully feel along the dog's shoulder blade if it is a front one (similar in the back), on down over the elbow, and the various joints at his "wrist/knee" and the toe joints, as you feel for any area that might be warmer than the areas around it. If he pulled a muscle, it might be warmer (or tighter) than his other tissues.

If you do, start icing that area with a solution of 1/3 rubbing alcohol to 2/3 water frozen in a couple of ziplock baggies. Do this a couple times a day for at least 20 minutes a time.

Do not let him do any jumping whatsoever and carry him up and down stairs. Confine him in a crate for complete rest. If he has a broken nail, it will have to be cut off at the break, and steptic powder applied for the bleeding.

Get him into the vet as soon as you can for a diagnosis. He might also have to be tested for Lyme Disease, as lameness is one of its first symptoms (particularly if the lameness moves from one leg to another).
