Question
My 6 month old shi tzu is vomiting and has diarrhea this is happen for the second time in two months, we've taking him to the veteneran for this already, they've run test and came up with nothing serious, he is up to date on all of his vaccinations. They gave us meds to give him for it but it has occurred again! Do you have any idea what this could be???

Answer
Dear Dawntorian,

Thank you for writing to me about your puppy.

Please get a second opinion as to what is going on with your dog.  I would change her food to a specially prepared type for intestional problems and stop the vaccinations for awhile. They may have made her ill with a condition known as vaccinosis.

If you can find a homeopathic vet that would be excellent.

Try giving her a digestive enzyme such as Prozyme (J&B Wholesale Supply), Glutamine Powder and Seacure.  The health food store may have a product that I have used called Tummy Tonic by Gaia.  You may be able to get it on line.

Apparently the meds your vet is perscribing are just covering up the cause of the problem. You need to get to the root as well as heal her inflamed intestional tract.

If the second vet can't help, bring her to a specialist, such as a gastro intestinal vet.

Have her checked for Giardia.

Best of Luck,
Shelley Davis
