Dog pecking order

Question
I am writing to you because you said you have multiple dogs.  I have three.  How can I tell what the pecking order is among my three dogs?  Are there behaviors I can look for?  They are all fixed females, ages 2, 4 & 5, and are all about the same weight. Thank you in advance.

Answer
There is usually one ALPHA and the rest are pretty much equals. Size of the dogs have nothing to do with pecking order.  The smallest of dogs can be the alpha to two large breed dogs. It's all about the attitude. Usually the alpha will be the first thru the door, she/he can eat out of anyones dish, but no one out of hers. There are also ocassions were all want to be alpha (my mother has this with her two spayed females) They will fight. If one gets attention, the other attacks. For instance, when my mom comes home both dogs want her attention. She must completely ignore them both until the excitement of her getting home is completley over. Then she can pet them. She could never ruff house with one dog as the other would attack.
Sometimes all dogs will be very equal and it would be hard to tell who is the alpha...although no matter who the ALPHA is...YOU should always be the pack leader!
