Potty Training a 4 month old

QUESTION: I have rescued a 4 month old mini wired haired dachshund.
He is not house trained. My question is do I start like a 6 week old, or do you have other advice?  Thanks for any help.

ANSWER: Hello Laurie, Yes absolutely, start over just like he's never been trained before.  Using the crate method seems to work best.  Thanks for asking, Cindy Lou :)

QUESTION: Thanks!  One more question.  He is a biter.  Nips us anytime, anywhere, how do we stop him?

Hello Laurie, It's just like having a baby, When he does unacceptable behavior, correct him by telling him firmly NO. and then give him something he is allowed to bite, such as a toy or rawhide.  He is biting to get your reaction and attention.  If you scold him with a firm NO and then ignore him, he might just get the idea that nipping doesn't work.  Also if he is persistent and nipping your hands, tell him NO and give him a toy and let him know thats for chewing. Show him the difference and what is acceptable.  For the most part all they want is your approval and to make you happy.  He'll get the idea. Thanks for asking, Cindy Lou :)
