male or female

Question
I've never owned a dog before and went to look at a female shihtzu.  When I turned her over to rub her belly, it sure looked like boy parts.  How do I know for sure that she really is a female>?

Hello Teresa,  To make it as plain and simple to you, I will try to give you a visual...If the private parts are just between where the rear legs meet, basically at the bottom of the belly "only" then it's a female.  If the private parts start at that area and continue up the belly for a few inches and end at the top or middle of the belly then it is a boy.  So where the urine comes out at the bottom of the belly (girl) or the middle of the belly (boy)  I hope this helps you, Thanks for asking, Cindy Lou :)
