7yr old Jack Russell on siezure medication

Question
Finally had to put our Jack on medication, 7 seizures in 3 days. She has been on it for about a month and a 1/2. At first it worked pretty good but this week she has had 4 seizures this week. Now what do we do????

Answer
You need to talk to your veterinarian about this as the medication may have to be changed or adjusted.

Here is an article written by John B. Symes, DVM, (DogtorJ.) that you might find interesting, titled "Idiopathic Epilepsy - The Dietary Solution" http://dogtorj.tripod.com/id21.html In this he explains how gluten-free diets can help dogs with epilepsy. Here is his primary webpage, http://dogtorj.tripod.com/ ...fascinating stuff!

This site http://www.worldwidehealthcenter.net/articles-115.html also talks about the benefits of gluten-free diets in epileptic people, plus a few other things that might be useful. Talk to your vet about this if you are thinking of trying some of it. But I would most certainly take your dog off of gluten and put her on something like a duck and potato diet. It won't hurt and it just might help!
