Question
QUESTION: My 6mth. golden chews everything in sight!  I had a few issues with furniture when she was a puppy and thought she outgrew it - until she chewed my new leather couch!!

She gets plenty of love, exercise and attention ( Ihave a 8 and 9 year old) but she will chew anything, except her chew toys.  I tried kongs, dosent like them. She does like stuffed animal toys, but tears them apart in a few minutes.

Any recommendations?

ANSWER: Hello There are  a fewthings you need to get.

Get bitter apple spray via the petstore and spray a small amount on the corners of the couch when she gets a taste of this she'll back right off. And get some Durable Nyla bones...type Nyla bones into your search engine and you'll find out exactly what they are...my dogs chew these all the time and enjoy chewing on them keeps them quite and calm and stops them getting into truble ie chewing stuff they shouldn't. Get some Bison or beef knuckles the dogs love these and again keep them quite and busy. Stuff the kong with peanut butter or chesewhiz.

QUESTION: Thanks for your quick reply- I will try the nyla bones, have heard of them - would pet smart have the beef knuckle/bison in the rawhide section?  What do you think about rawhide?  I heard that I should only buy US produced beef chew products.

Also, forgot to mention, bitter apple does not phase her - we tried that when she was teething!

thanks!

Answer
Alrighty, You are welcome. Petsmart is where I shop for my dogs my dogs love the beef knuckles, cow hooves, chip stick or compressed rawhides and of course the nyla bones. i use rawhides always have not only with my three dogs but my parents alwaysgave there dogs rawhides with no problems and my friend gives his goldenXlab rawhides without problems but the important thing is to watch the dog if your doing housework just check the dog every few minutes to be sure they aren't choking sometimes the dog will try swollow the hide too big and cause choking but always my dogs bring it up and then I throw it away. THe compressed rawhides last longer by the way, and the flovored ones are most popular at my house! I notice most if not all rawhides I see are US made. Bison knuckles or bones are harder to find and you might have to try little famiyl run petstores as I've not seen them at petsmart or petland...only the beef ones.

Best of luck with your pup.
