Dog Behaviour HELP!!!

Hi Wendy,
I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out.  I have 3 dogs - Binky a 8 year old LH Daschund, Diamond a 2 year old Cocker, and Zoe a 1 1/2 year old Jack Russell.  I LOVE my dogs to death, but I am so MAD at Binky and I am almost in tears.  He has always been not the most socialable of dogs.  He hates other people, loves us but HATES everyone else, and yes this has always been a problem.  We have two teens, and he has to be put outside when they have company.  It is a nuisance, and I don't know why we have tolerated it so long.  Have had him since he was a young pup.  Having since had the other dogs I realize what a bad boy he is.  I LOVE my dogs, they get hugs and kisses and lots of dog toys and treats.  I dress them up etc.. yeah I am "one of those" pet parents.  We live where there are sonic booms.  Binky goes ballistic when he hears them,, well I recently got a Beautiful new couch.  I come home today and he has chewed and torn it so bad from the sonic booms.  I am so upset - HELP what can I do to stop this???

I would say its too late to do anything about his unsocial behavior. He is 8 years old after all. I would however start crating him when he is left alone. At least this way, if a sonic boom happens when you are gone you don't have to worry about him destroying your stuff. It may also help him to feel safe and secure instead of so scared. If he hates being crated, start out slowly and crate him for 15 min at a time when you are home and gradually increase the time. Hopefully he will get used to it. This would also be a great spot for him when company calls. I wish you luck...it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but it can be possible.
