Puppy threw up this morning!

Question
Hello, here are the facts about my puppy....

Beagle - Male, born 06-01-07 (12 weeks old today, 8-24-07)

Had Solo-Jec 7, canine distemper, hepatitis-parainfluenza-parvoirus Vaccine, modified live virus, leptospira bacterin on 7-22-07 and 08-12-07

Wormed withliquid wormer for round worms 07-25-07 and 08-04-07, he had a round worm in stool after first worming.

He recieved his first flea and tick treatment yesterday, treated with Hartz 3 in 1.

All these have been done by us at home, he has not seen a vet yet, he surely will though, we will take him in for his rabies vaccine and to get neutered at 4 months.

Anyway, he is acting fine, running, getting into trouble, eating etc.  BUT, he threw up this morning, a lot, it was like phlegm, didn't have anything solid in it that I could tell.  It was his first outing so I don't think he had eaten or drank anything yet. (I was not the one that took him out so can not be 100% sure if he had eaten yet)
Is this anything to worry about?  Could it be a reaction too he flea and tick treatment he had yesterday?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi there,

Known as "bilious vomiting", it means your puppy's stomach is empty. Dogs with this condition usually vomit in the morning after not eating all night. Treatment is to feed a Milkbone, or small meal just before you go to bed.
If it continues, you can talk to your vet about it, some dogs with this condition need an antacid.

If he's having a reaction to the flea preventative treatment, you'll be seeing more in the way of vomiting during the day, and he might act lethargic.

Best of luck,
Patti
