Question
We have a 4 month old Dogue de Bordeaux who we have had since he was 5 wks old, he's pretty good about going to the door to ask out by sitting at it, and we also take him out every hour, on the hour.  He has over the last few months had quite a few "accidents" on our dining room carpet and I do have a carpet cleaner which I use regularly. LOL  If we catch him right away, he's told thats not good, and out the door he goes to hopefully finish his business.  We always use a towel (specific ones) to soak up the pee, then use a stain remover on it, and do the same thing, soak it up and rinse with water, but sometimes he has an accident when we are not home, or in another room, and it has dried, so I know it's deep down there now.  I'm at my wits end on how to get the smell out of the carpet, my husband can't smell, but I can, and I know if I can smell it others can as well.  I'm so desperate to find a way to remove the smell, since the warmer weather is upon us and everytime it gets hot, the house smells, and also we are only renting our condo, which I don't want to have to replace the carpet because it's the same carpet through out the whole house.
Jake, our puppy has also gone to the bathroom in our bedroom on the floor, on my husband's side of the bed, which I think is a way for him to show his area, because our old dog used to sleep on the floor his side.
I would really appreciate any help, info or suggestions you might have for me.
Also, do you think amonia would help kill the smell? If I used in the rug shampooer(sp?) lol
Thanks so much.

Answer
Hi Leann;
Best thing I have found for removinf puppy oders and stains is Simple solution.
It comes in a formula for dogs and for cats.
In fact, it is about the best stain remover I have found, period, so I use it for stubborn stains on upholstered furmniture and ij the laundry.
We have quite a few grandchildren, and I am not a "don't touch that" granny, so I get some stains that most grandmothers I suppose wouldn't get.
Since the smell is probably into the carpet pretty well, and may be in the pad below , you may have to treat more than once.
I never take puppies out on a regular basis.
I watch after they eat or drink, for them to show signs they need to potty. they will start looking for a lace to go, or will squat. Then I grab them up, take them out to where I want them to go, and watch until they finish, then make a big deal of it, "What a GOOD baby", or good dog, smart dog etc, and give them a lot of attention.
When they start to go in the house and I catch them ( other than right after they eat or drink), I say a firm and pronounced "NO!". grab them up, take them out, and when they finish, heap on the praise.
a doggy door they can go in and out when they need is one of the best helps I have ever had.
4 months old is still a pretty young puppy, and like human babies, it takes time for them to develope complete control of their organs.
I get Simple sulution at Petsmart and Petco stores.
I also use it as carpet cleaner in my steam cleaner for all the carpet, because it cleans so well, and smells so nice.
