Dogs eye irritated

Question
I have a 5 yo german shepherd mix. His eye is swollen and puffy as well as blood shot. This occured overnight. His eye is perfectly clear other than a little watery. Do you have any suggestions. Is there something I can do to relieve the swelling. PLEASE HELP.

Hi Amanda, It sounds like he got something in it and has been irritating it.  You should take him into the vet to make sure he hasn't scratched his eyeball.  They can do a simple test to determine if there is a scratch and to see if there is anything in his eye.  They can also give you medicine to relieve the swelling.  Hope this helps,
