How do I know??

Question
How do I know if I REALLY want a pet dog?
I have always, always wanted a pug. They are sooo cute.

Recently my roommate got a chihuahua, and he makes me so happy. She tells me I look so happy when I play with him and that I should get a dog. (Of course always take advice like that with a grain of salt.)

But the past few years I have really been looking into getting a pug. I'd prefer a puppy, but I also want to get a rescue, but I dunno.

How do I know if I really want one or if it's just a "phase?"

I am more than willing to take a dog to the vet. My 2 cats get their yearly checkups + whenever they have so much as a sniffle.

But what responsibilities come with a dog? I have never had one before, only cats.

Thanks
Kayla

Answer
Dogs take up a lot more time and attention than a cat.  Litter boxes don't work near as well with them, and besides, they need human interaction.  If you can't make it home to give the dog a mid day break, you need to find somebody that can.  Even small dogs need training, otherwise they are less pleasant to have around.

Dogs are genuinely happy to be around you.  Dogs see their owners as family, cats, as staff.  You can do all sorts of things with dogs, perhaps agility competition.  You can put the dog on leash and take it to many outdoor activities.
