can Dachshunds swim ? We are thinking about getting one,but we have 2 boats,live on the water, and have a pool

I think all dogs can swim.  Most dogs love it, although many of my Labs haven't.  Much of it has to do with what they are exposed to when young.  I tend to get puppies in the fall and often they don't have a chance to swim, until the summer, and aren't interested.  I would either get a very young one, or find an older one that likes to swim.  

One of the best sources for dogs with a predictable personality is the rescue
dogs.  These are dogs that lost their home, but were taken into a foster home
to be retrained as necessary and placed in the right home for them.  You may

http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm  The rescues charge a fee to help cover their expenses, but is much less than the price of a puppy plus all its medical expenses the first year.
