One ear up

Question
Hi,  I have an 11 week old female Pugalier - over the last day or two her left ear is standing half way up while the other remains floppy.  I have read that ears can do strange things when puppies are teething and she is definitely teething - she is chewing constantly.  Should I be concerned and is this normal?  I am thinking of taking her to a vet for a check up.  Hope you can help as I am a little concerned.  Thanks

Answer
Louise,
Yes ears are strange things.  Ears that are supposed to be down sometimes go up; ears that are supposed to be up go down..I find that constant massaging helps, and there is an ear cream that can be purchased at Petedge.com and Cherrybrook.com that softens the ears a bit and makes them more pliable.  There is also an ear mender which is like a combinations of fabric glue and rubber cement that they say to glue the ears down with.  I don't do that, it is messy and doesn't always work.  I do, however put 3 drops on a counter and it forms a little round disk, that I then glue to the inside of the ear flap, it only takes an hour for them to get used to it and it adds weight to the ear and makes it hang down.  There is a procedure that a vet can do, if you find one who will do it, that breaks the cartilage in the ear.  This is painful and the dog has to be unconscious to do it.
