Question
hello i have a 6 mths old puggy
i was wondering if he is old enough to go for a long walk
have been taking him on small walks for about 15 mins would love to take him for 40 mins to and hour walk

Answer
At 6 months, he should have most of his adult size, but his joints are still developing.  You could try it and see how he does.  Loop around close to home so if he starts lagging or showing signs of fatigue, you can cut the walk short.  He should be small enough that you can carry him if you have to.  I often have further to go than my Lab puppies are up to.  When they tire, I carry them until they become too squirmy, and are ready to walk some more.  Avoid hard surfaces and running a jumping until he is older.  Keep him lean.

Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs.
