puppy growling

hello. I just got a shihtzu puppy a couple of weeks ago and he has started growling and trying to bite me (example) like today after i took him outside to go potty and was going to pick him up and take him inside he kept growling and trying to bite me in the face.

Tiffany, does your puppy have four, healthy legs? If so, why pick him up? He can walk inside on his own.

About the growling, though, it's hard to say whether he's doing it out of fear (bending over a dog is VERY dominating), or if he's simply trying to test his boundaries. I would suggest speaking with a local trainer about the best way to solve the problem, because they will need to see the behavior in person to know the best way to go about fixing the issue.
