Schnauzer with several issues

Question
My dog, an almost 8-year old  (birthday 10/12) Schnauzer is having two issues.  1) for approximately two months, he has been frightened of his water dish and will only drink from my cupped hands and/or from water poured on the floor; 2) he has been making "pig" snorting and snoring noises for about a month. The pig noises are evident when he's smelling/sniffing something-the snoring is horrible and worse when he first falls asleep-he did not snore or make pig noises before AT ALL.  He had surgery about two 1/2 months ago to remove a re-growing dew claw.  I have had him back to the vet several times with the symptoms I've described herein only to be advised to keep pouring water on the floor and no clue as to why he's begun this phobia of his water dish and snorting.  Blood work indicates nothing out of the ordinary.  I have tried changing water bowls using everything from a human drinking glass to a paper plate to no avail.  He has vomited two or three time in the past week. The vomit consist of food eaten several hours prior to the vomiting and he doesn't act as though he feels bad afterwards. I feed Wellness dry kibble and wet canned food such as their Wing-a-ling wet food mixed with "Grammy's Pot Pie" kibbles.   He awoke this morning  vomiting at 12:30 AM without even having a chance to get out of his bed before it was upon him.  I have taken his temperature and it was F 100.3.  Please help with my sweet boy. I love him so.

Answer
As I am not a veterinarian, I won't be much help, but the first thing I would do would be to add a fair amount of water to his dog food so that you know he is getting some fluid into his system with each feeding. If the actual water turns him off, let it soak up for a few minutes before offering it to him. Have you tried a water bottle? Like a Farnum rabbit water bottle? There is a learning curve with that, but maybe it would be easier for him to drink with his head up as opposed to down. As to the vomiting, I wonder if he has ingested something he shouldn't have and is trying to bring it back up.

Then I would go for a second, or even third, opinion somewhere else. The sudden onset of snoring concerns me, as something has physically changed with him, and this needs to be checked out. I am talking about something beyond a simple blood work-up... X-rays, MRI, etc... whatever it takes. I am thinking this could be something like a foxtail in the wrong place or even a tumor, or anything in-between.

If you ever figure out what is going on with your dog, please let me know as it might help someone else down the line. These things may all be related in some bizarre fashion.
