Question
I got Rusha from the pound 2yrs ago,she is a lovely girl very sweet and playful with my sons 16yrs the problem is she is very aggressive towards other dogs, mostly females,I walk her late at night so we don't have to worry about running into any dogs she is very strong so I have not socialized her with any other dogs for fear she would hurt them even in play,I feel she is missing out even though we play and walk her every day please give advice

Answer
The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. If you take a class, the instructor should help you with her aggression.  Usually the first night, you don't take the dogs.  Talk to the instructor about it thatnight and if the instructor thinks there will be a problem, find another class or work on it yourself.
