we are getting a white boxer puppy,how hard is it to get her registered?we live in michigan.mom and dad are full blooded but not registered.is it expensive, and what is the purpose of the papers? she is only 8 weeks old. if we can how long do we have to get them? is it more hassle than it's worth? thank you tom ross

Hi Thomas,

The AKC will only register a puppy whose parents are already registered. If your puppy's parents were never registered, I'm afraid you're out of luck.

Papers, really don't mean much other than having a document of your dog's linage. There are far too many dogs who are imperfect specimens of their breed that have papers. Nobody checks to see if a dog with papers has sound confirmation or if it adheres to breed standards.

I'm sure your new puppy will be a wonderful much loved family pet, and that's about all that matters. The only papers you need are the piles you're going to go through while house training your puppy!
