my boxer Athena has blood in stool

Recently my three year old boxer Athena has had traces of bright red blood following going to the bathroom.  From what I can see there has been little or no blood in her stool, but some near her anus and on the fur in the area.  She has recieved no change in diet, is as playful as ever and is a good weight (maybe even a little bit overweight)...She eats PurinaOne mixed with canned wet food twice daily and healthy treats, but I'm worried as I've red some horrible things about blood in the stool, what should I do?

The best advice I can give you in this situation is to take her to a vet.
Hopefully she has just eaten something a bit sharp like a piece of bone and cut herself a little but there are other alternatives which do need ruling out - which I can't do without the dog in front of me to examine.
