Weeing in the house

Question
I have a Jack russel cross who is about 5 years old. It all started about a yr ago he would start weeing in the house on the odd occasion (before this he was completely housetrained). Now he is doing it on a daily basis. What do I do? What can I put on the carpet etc to get rid of the scent and stop him weeing without having to buy all the special sprays? I'm at my whits end as I have 3 children, 1 being a young baby who will soon be crawling. I don't want her crawling in dog wee carpets etc and it is starting to smell. I'm that depressed with the situation I've thought of finding him a new home but apart from the wee problem he is an absolutely gorgeous, placid and loveable dog and to be honest I don't want to get rid of him.

Please help me as I'm at breaking point with him

Answer
Many people swear by vinegar and water.  Safe, effective, and right on hand.

Neuter him is not already.  Also have the vet give him a good check up.

The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
