Question
SARAH--OUR 7 MO. OLD MIN. POODLE MALE WAS NEUTERED YESTERDAY.  HE IS GENERALLY DOING WELL BUT HAS A STRONG AVERSION TO THE LAMP SHADE APPARATUS THAT HE WEARS TO PREVENT LICKING AT THE SUTURES.  HOW LONG DOES HE NEED TO BE RESTRICTED IN THIS WAY?

THANK YOU,

DICK KEIM

Answer
The sutures should be removed in ten days (or dissolved if they are the internal dissolvable variety) and after that he will not need to wear the collar.  He can have it left off when you are around to stop him licking at the wound if he is really protesting extremely vociferously.
