Cockapoo eats poo!

Question
Hello
I have an 11-month old Cockapoo. We got her at the age of 7 months, she is spayed. We are walking her off a leash now, and if she gets distracted it is often because she has run off somewhere to eat faeces (animal of any kind). Its quite disgusting, and if we try and call her back she won't come because she is preoccupied, and if we go after her, she'll treat it as a game and run the other direction.  She was not very well last night after eating poo yesterday morning but obviously doesn't associate a poorly tummy with eating things she shouldn't. I notice if we give her a treat or anything else outside of her meals, which we don't often, she won't smell it beforehand she will just eat it. Unlike our 9-yr old Border Collie who won't eat anything unless it smells tasty!  Is this a puppy phase or is she a breed that will continue to eat faeces and what can we do about it? We are expecting our first child in Jan and because she licks all the time (affectionate), which we are trying to discourage her from doing, I don't want her to lick our baby if she has been eating revolting things!
PLEASE HELP!!
Thanks
Laura

Answer
The usual remedies of cleaning up or food additives won't work in this case.  I can only suggest better training and supervision.  I think it is less the breed than the individual. Many puppies grow out of eating their own, but my 13 year old lab still needs careful supervision out in the woods.
