My chihuahuas

Question
I have 2 Chihuahuas that are presently in heat.  I am sort of up in the air as to whether I should allow them to breed at least once before I spay them or just to go ahead and get the spaying over.  I have as well a shepherd/pompek mix that was spayed when she first cam e into heat and she still acts like a baby.  I do not want a repeat of that sort of behavior with the chi's.  My vet told me that dogs that are spayed before they have pups tend to retain a puppy like behavior way longer then dogs that are allowed to breed at least once.  Can anyone tell me if this is in fact true or only a myth?  thanks for the help.

Answer
Hello Hazel, I can only give you my opinion on that.  I disagree with your vet.  Their personality is what it is, I do not think having puppies changes them to that extent.  I have female dogs both who have had litters and not had a litter and to me their personality was the same before and after either situation.  The personality will change with maturity, keeping in mind some dogs never seem to mature no matter what.  For health reasons spaying is a good idea and keep in mind that Chihuahua tend to have C sections when delivering.  Thanks for asking, Cindy Lou :)
