Loose bowels

Question
I have a 1 year old female black lab. She has had a problem with loose bowels (not liquid) for the past month. I took her to the vet and she was checked for parasites. The vet gave me some medicine and I have been feeding her rice and chicken. The diarrhea seemed to be getting better but has started getting looser. She is not lethargic and is still playful. Any suggestions?

Is she still on the medication? what medication was it? Rice and chicken is a great way to settle a dogs stomach when they are sick, and rice will firm up stool usually very easily. Unless your dog has grain allergies!

Some dogs just have highly sensitive stomachs. I have a golden retriever with an EXTREMELY sensitive stomach, and the slightest thing he eats off his diet he has bloody stool and vomits and gets lethargic. Plain foods like chicken, rice, plain yogurt, cottage cheese, etc, all will help. Immodium helps when things get very loose. Try to stay away from dog food/treats with corn, wheat, brewers yeast, soy, animal fat, byproducts and other inferior ingredients that can cause a lot of tummyaches.

What is her normal diet before you started her on the chicken and rice?

I hope she feels better!
