swelling

i have a 4 month old puppy, staffordshire bull terrior, and last night i noticed the left side of his face was slightly swollen. he becomes irritable when i touch it and i believe its hurting him. could you tell me what it might be?

Hi Lauren,

You shouldn't be looking for a diagnosis of your puppy's condition online. If the painful swelling persists for more than 24 hours, you need to have your puppy examined by a veterinarian.

There are many things that could be the cause for painful facial swelling, ranging from an insect bite reaction, to a bacterial infection, to a lymph node problem ... with about 100 things in between, what's the use of guessing?  Treatments vary depending on what the problem might be.
