poison proof training

Question
Not really a question. I read the question about how to train your dog not to eat from others..... Something to think about......35 years ago, I had a dog I trained not to eat from anyone else. I thought this was a good thing (nobody could poison her) I got sick and ended up in the hospital, and she starved to death, before I got out! You would think the instinct to live would be stronger than training, but not so in this case. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND IT! Thanx for your time.....Nae                         PS People should think about what will happen to the dog, if something happens to you, and you have trained it in this manner

Answer
Hi, I'm not sure which response you are referring too, but I don't recommend poison proofing to anyone, but if they ask about it, I will let them know about it.  Also, on a personal note, I had a dog poisoned right through our backyard fence.  In fact, a neighbor witnessed the guy handing him a hamburger laced with a poison.  Fortunately I happened to come home early enough and caught the dog getting sicker by the minute.  If I hadn't come home at the time I did, he would have died.  He was a big 120 pound shepherd who loved everybody.  I don't poison proof my dogs do to the difficulty and the fact that it isn't a big necessity in my life, but I do understand where people are coming from when they are concerned about something happening to their dogs since it has personally happened to me.  Thank you for your concern, and I will definitely remember to put your recommendation in it if you don't mind me using it.
