Question
I have a 3.5 yr old German shep/retriever mix. She is a very lovable and an easy dog. Loves everyone and mothers my kids. I never had her spayed because I wanted to mate her at least once with a sheperd. We've had a pitbull runing loose in the neighborhood. One day(July 3) I caught him in my fenced yard(4 ft fence). Judging from her recent weight gain, extended teats, appitite I'm guessing he got to her. If I calculated correctly she's due in the next few days. What can I do for her? Also I reported this male dog to animal control the day I found him in my yard. The owners still allow him to run the streets after getting a letter from Animal Control. What if anything can I do with the owners of the other dog? Mine was in her fenced yard and this dog managed to wiggle his way through my gate.

Answer
Thanks for your question.  What you should do for her is make her a bedded area where she likes to lay down.  A "nesting area"  for her to feel comforable.  Start feeding her purinea puppy food this is great for the milk and will not make it so hard for the puppies to transistion from mommys milk to that puppy food.  As far as the other owners I would write them a letter and let them know that you have a dog that is pregnant and  that there dog is responsible.  You dont have to put your name on it just say you would appreciate them keeping there dog in there yard from now on.  Hope this helps.
