Stinky Silky Pup

Question
Labman
I have a Silky Terrier Pup who is 10 weeks old.  Lulu is eating well and is full of energy however she is a stinky dog.  I have now bathed her twice which thankfully she enjoys however within 48 hours she has developed the "doggy smell" again.  As it is winter here I am loathed to have her clipped for a couple of months at least. Any suggestions on why this may be?  I have heard some processed dog foods can cause this however I am keen to keep her puppy nutrition up?
Any suggestions so she isn't so much on the nose?

Answer
At that age she may still have puppy breath, a natural thing that blessedly will go away in a month.  It is sort of an ammonia like smell.  Suggesting it is the commercial food is absolutely nonsense. Since 1992, I have raised 16 young puppies feeding them all commercial puppy chow to 4-6 months.  I also need monthly without a dozen other people and yearly with a couple of hundred.  We all feed commercial puppy chow and limit the baths the puppies get.  I have never seen an odor problem.  The puppies all are well bred, brushed regularly, and get good medical care.  Check the ears.  An infected ear can produce terrible doggy odors.  Have you discussed it with the vet?  Healthy puppies shouldn't have an odor problem once the puppy breath goes away if they are brushed frequently.

You are correct to stick to a commercial chow.  It is almost impossible for the average dog owner to formulate a complete and balanced diet.
