Question
QUESTION: I have a 14 mth old Terrier/Chih mix - male and neutered.  He loves to chew clothing and paper.  How does one discipline.  I tell him "bad boy" and pick up the stuff he chewed and toss it.  But is that all - is there a trick to get him to stop chewing?
He digs a lot also.  Don't know if I'm disciplining enough by saying "bad boy".

ANSWER: For chewing there's a product called 'bitter apple' and it doesn't hurt the dog,but it just makes things taste bad,and you can spray it on anything they are chewing on.and it doesn't stain anything either,so spray it on anything you want-you can get it at any petstore

Now as for digging the best thing to do is to distract him everytime he does that,he most likely does it out of boredom,so make sure he has toys in the yard as well

QUESTION: Thanks for the info on bitter apple.  As far as disciplining - is there a way to do it differently besides saying "bad dog" and that's it?  Would putting a leash on him for say 5 minutes after he chews/digs - is that disciplining him or would he know that he's being disciplined and would this teach him not to chew/dig?  I don't want to leash him for the rest of his life!

Answer
what you can try first is to call his name over to you,and give him a toy to play with insted, also clapping and calling his name works as well. You don't really have to leash him,you can alwso use a water bottle, spray him and say 'enough' loud and firm
