cough

Hi Shawn-  My year-old Min-pin coughs as if it has something caught in it's throat.  (I'm always running to the vet so when I saw this sight I thought i'd go ahead and ask.)  She doesn't constantly cough but when she does I'm afraid I'll have to do "Doggie abdominal thrusts" on her. Any suggestions?  Thanks a million,  Kimberly

Believe it or not, dogs get colds!

If this is something new, it sounds like she has a minor cold or possibly an upper resp infection or a bordetella (kennel cough) bug. You can give her robitussion for the cough to help her out a bit- .1cc/LBS (So if she weighs 6 LBS give her .6 CCs) but ultimately if it continues or gets worse, she does need to see a vet for an antibiotic (Clavamox usually)
