Question
Good Evening,
Our 4 year old German/Lab/Husky,Kiara, gave birth to 4 pups on Oct 26th 2004.  The pups have not breast fed for the last 2 weeks. ( actually 3 were given away this past week-end( Dec 18th) and we have 1 left who will be going to his new home on Christmas Day.  To my question, Kiara's breats, mainly the 4 near her hind area have leaked a bit, but are now turning very hard,  should we express her milk? or does it "disappear" on it's own? They look very sore, though her temperment is fine.  Thank you for any assistance.  Concerned parents Kirk and Peder. Toronto Ontario .

Answer
HI KIRK
IF SHE DOES NOT HAVE A TEMPERATURE, JUST LET THINGS TAKE CARE OF ITSELF.
IF SHE HAS A TEMP ABOVE 101 SHE SHOULD BE SEEN BY A VET TO DRY UP WITH MEDS.
MOST BITCHES START TO WEAN WHEN I START TO GET MINE TO EAT ABOUT THREE WEEKS.  THEY SENSE THIS AND DO NOT FEED AS OFTEN.  SLOWLY THEY DRY UP BY LETTING THEM GO AND I JUST KEEP AN EYE THAT THEY ARE IN FACT DRYING AND NOT INFECTED.

KIND REGARDS
PATT
