Question
my dog has had his rabies shot but i used an old country vet and he didnt give out records. is there a registry somewhere where ican find the information?

Answer
Hi Susan,

To my knowledge, there isn't an centralized vaccination registry, the entire process depends on the vet clinic and the dog owner to keep their own records.  That said, some states have a Rabies Control Authority, you can see  if your state has this department (perhaps it's part of a public health department?) you'd need to know the date of vaccination and name and address of the vet, as well as the number of the vaccine, which is usually on the Rabies tag given after the dog is vaccinated.

Please note, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, the laws regarding patient veterinary records vary in each state. You can see those laws here:

At the very least, your vet should provide a letter or some form of documentation to prove that your dog has indeed received the Rabies vaccine, when you ask for it.

If you need proof that your dog was inoculated against Rabies, it's recommended to have your dog  vaccinated again.

Best of luck,
Patti
