Maltese - Very Bruised Underside of Neck

My dog jumped off the couch the other day and yelped uncontrollably upon landing kind of sideways, but on his feet.  Since then he has been very lethargic, not moving much, basically 180 degrees out of his normal self.  Today while checking his rib cage I noticed some very dark bruising on the underside of his neck.  Any chance it could be internal bleeding or just bruised from a rib, shoulder, etc. being out of whack?

Hello Ed, There is a very good chance of internal bleeding.  I would go to the vet right away to make sure.  The little dogs have short legs and when they jump the front legs are not log enough to absorb the impact before the body does,  There in lies the danger.  Please take him to be sure.  Thanks for asking, Cindy Lou :)
