Question
QUESTION: I have a 8 pound Chihuahua and we live in California.  I am moving to  Wisconsin I am wondering what kinds of shots you would recommend to me for her, to keep her safe.  I do take her outside and want her to be safe as she is my child.
Thanks
Jenna

ANSWER: You really don't need any different shots, but do make sure that she has some sort of tick protection on, such as Frontline. Ticks are especially bad right now, and she will need to be on some sort of heartworm preventative.

QUESTION: Should I just use frontline or get the lime disease shot also?

Answer
You could give her a Lyme shot, but I don't do mine for the simple reason that it is only something like 85% effective, and once the dog has had that vaccine, it will always test positive for Lyme. I think it is far better to test for Lyme (and Ehrlichiosis) once a year and then give antibiotics if the dog tests positive.
