Jealousy problem?

19 11:21:01

Question
I have an 11 year old lab/husky mix. I recently moved in with my fiancee who has a 4 year old purebred german shepherd. Both dogs are female. They seem to like each other and play constantly (neck biting, wrestling, but tails are wagging and it doesn't seem aggressive -- they both will take breaks then either one will come back for more). Overall both dogs seem happy. My old lab/husky seems to be the more dominant one, but the shepherd is not a doormat. There have been no fights.

The big problem is that my old dog is destroying stuff that belongs to my girlfriend. They have a good relationship, my girlfriend gives the dogs treats, makes them learn tricks, and gives them both a lot of love and attention. But my lab/husky will seek out things that have her smell and chew them up.

I'm guessing it's jealousy -- I've been single for almost half her life and my dog was getting more attention from me before I got engaged -- though now she has another dog in the household and is getting more attention from people than ever before.

Any thoughts on this situation?

Answer
Ok, sounds great, BUT, do you walk these dogs?? Do they get lots of exercise? Both are very energetic and intelligent dogs. Go to alpha boot camp *type into your web browser and it should take you to it* and please impliment the ideas on the site. These dogs need to be exercised, walked twice daily BRISKLY at heel for nice long walks, and played with or run hard several times per week until their tongues hang out. Tired dogs are generally happier, calm , and easier to get along with. Destructive behavior is usually a sign of boredom, or frustration, or a combination of the two :) BTW, dogs wag their tails and bite at the same time so don't take that as a sign. More importantly are they wagging to the right or to the left? Sounds crazy but direction matters. Neither dog should be dominant, you should be. You should walk girlfriends dog once per day and she your dog , the next time you walk, switch.
It'll work out
