Question
My 8yr.old small mix male dog has been having seizures mostly noticed when becoming excited. He siffens out and shivers and moves his head around as if trying to focus. He doesn't lose control of bladder or feces. The spell usually last approx. 2 minutes and then he's extremely tired. Could you please help me understand what's going on with my little guy Rocket? Thanks

Answer

Hi Janie,

Seizure disorders aren't uncommon in dogs, most of the time it's a condition that's controllable with the proper medication. If you haven't yet had your dog examined by your vet you should do so. It would help your vet if you could write down the dates your dog has a seizure, and also how long each sure lasts.

Seizures that last 5 minutes or longer are the most dangerous, but a two minute long seizure isn't something which should be ignored. Untreated seizure disorder can be dangerous, or even deadly.

I hope I've been a help.
Best of luck,
