Changing foods

Question
My wife and I have had our Great Dane Boston since he was 8 weeks.  HE will be 3 years at the end of May and we could not be happier with our choice of breed. We have fed him Royal Canine product his entire life as recommended from the breeder.  Currently in the giant breed formula. We were looking into changing brands stricktly on price.  Boston has done great on Royal Canine and we don't want to make him unhealthy.  It is a very spendy brand so we were wondering if you thought it would be o.k. to swap foods if done slowly over time, and what brand(s) would you recommend.  Thank you for your time

Answer
If you are looking to switch foods you need to understand that unfortunately of all the things that you could cut costs on for the dog, food should not be one of them. I can't really recommend a food for you unless I know what you are wanting to spend. All of the foods that I recommend will be about $40 or more per bag. And this is only because Great Danes require a certain protein content with their food, along with other nutrients that you will not find in a lower quality food.  If you can give me some more information on what you want your price range to be I might be able to get you some information on comparable dog foods for a lower cost.

Keep in mind, with feeding a higher quality food, you give your dog a longer and better quality of life.
