Great dane puppy?

Hi,
My husband and I adopted a puppy that was said to be a great dane but it was from a rescue and we arent sure if he is a great dane. How can we tell? he just started losing his baby teeth today and he weighs about 40 LBS and is about 20 inches tall at the sholders. someone told me he looks like a german shepard but i compared pictures and compared him to a great dane pup down the road about the same age and doesnt look the same.

Get books from your local library and compare.

Danes have short coats.  They are square in outline but at this age they usually have long legs.  The head is broad in the back skull with a broad muzzle.  They are fawn, brindle, black, blue, harlequin (black & white) or harlequin mis-mark (anything other than the above).  They have drop ears not pointed and pricked.
