Question
My 45-pound dog has been prescribed Denamarin for a liver disorder.  Is there a generic substitute or dietary supplement that I can use in place of this expensive medication?

Answer
HI Roland
Denamarin is a very beneficial product for liver damage.  It contains extract of Milk thistle (Silybin) which is a high antioxidant, stimulates bile flow, aids digestion and helps regenerate the liver and detox the system.  But I understand that it is expensive, although your pet's life is probably quite reliant on a superior liver program.

The only other product I know off that is of high quality and completely natural is Canine Liver Reconditioning blend.  This is added to meals twice per day.  You may want to check with the manufacturers if there are any safety concerns with combining these two products for a certain amount of time while the herbal blend starts to work.
You can read more about it at:

You should also advise your vet of what you are doing just to make sure there are no contraindications etc...

All the best,
Silva.
