Question
Our dog was chasing a ball at night and ran into a water pipe sticking out of the ground.  The pipe ripped her
open and broke her leg, (serious injury).  The vet brought in an expert to fix the break, pins and plate etc.  The danger now is infection.  Any suggestions on keeping infection down.

Answer
Hi Dan
Oh - your poor dog - what a terrible injury to sustain.  Yes - some things come to mind immediately.

Firstly, have a look at a terrific herbal product called Bone Healing herbal mix.  It is available through:
www.herbal-treatments.com
You will find it under "herbs for Dogs".
It will greatly assist in regain bone strength, repair and health.  It comes in liquid form and is easily added to meals twice per day.

Secondly, you may want to look into Living Clay (calcium bentonite clay).  You can purchase it already hydrated, or in powder form and hydrate it yourself.  Apply the healing clay to the outside - on the leg, on and around the scars.  This will help to draw out any infection.  You may want to check with your vet first about applying this.  You may also want to check with the clay people at time of purchase to ensure there is no problem with this type of application to this injury.  Let them know that your dog has pins and a plate inserted.  The clay works on pulling out heavy metals and toxins from the body.  So, just check that out for peace of mind.
Your dog may instinctively lick the clay, and this is ok - it is not harmful to ingest.

You can also look at a product called Nano Zinc - this is zinc in its smallest possible form, so that it penetrated easily into the body.  Zinc is a powerful immune system stimulant and you would want to boost your dog's immunity as highly as possible.  The Zinc is dropped into the mouth or food, and added to drinking water.  You may want to consider using this internally for about 6-8 weeks and then assess how things are going.  This Nano zinc is far superior to any zinc supplement you will buy at the health store or pharmacy.

Add a good quality supplement (living greens, spirulina etc.) to your dog's daily meals as well.

I hope this is helpful.  And I wish your dog all the best and a speedy and full recovery.
Please double check about the appropriateness of using the clay due to the pins and plate.  Otherwise, the other two products are perfectly safe to begin using now.  However, do run it past your vet first if you have any doubts about the safety of these products mixing with any medications your dog may be on.

With thanks,
Silva.
