Question
my dog keeps scratching his eyes excessively. We have tried
different food and took him to the vet. Yet nothing is being
done and he continues to scratch. What can we do to find out
exactly what he is allergic to, is there some kind of test??

Answer
It's not very cost effective to do a lot of testing, nor are they particularly accurate. My suggestion is to read the answer to the question that I just moments ago sent to a woman with an English Bulldog who has allergies and do the exact same things that I told her to do. Also, since your dog's itching is more centralized to his eyes, I would also find locally produced raw honey (not processed)&/or bee pollen.  It MUST be from bee hives in your immediate vicinity because it will be collected from the flowers that are in your area and therefore will provide natural defenses against the airborne allergens which may be effecting him. By the way, fresh, not dried pollen is much more effective and much more likely to provide the benefits you are looking for.  Perhaps you could go on line and search for local bee keepers. There are more hobbyists out there than you know.

There are also homeopathic remedies that will help your dog's eye itching. You could research them on-line, contact local health food stores, or contact a holistic vet that practices homeopathy. If you don't have one locally, I would highly recommend Dr Gerald Wessner. You can call him via 352-245-2025. He is outstanding and will probably cost a lot less in the long run than any regular vet and actually give you solutions instead of chemicals that just cause more problems. At least that has been my experience.
