Question
QUESTION: I just got my puppy last Sunday. The person told me that he was 10 weeks old, and they had given him dewormer and a shot from the feed store. I got him because he was the largest of the litter, and also looked to be in bad shape. My vet didn't have openings till yesterday. So I went to the local feed store and got a dewormer for 10lb dog (he is actually 16) and a shot to hold him over. Friday I took him in, and he has hook worms, and gave him his shot. He is going back in 3 weeks for more deworming and shots. He shows no signs of pavo or distemper. Thursday I went home on lunch to take him out. He went to the bathroom and I saw more worms. We had bought Pancur-C dewormer on petmeds and I had bought that earlier that week. I gave him 1 gram of the powder mixed into his food on my lunch. Normally before that he would eat all the food in his bowel. I am feeding him Purina One puppy chow as of right now, going to get something better on Sunday. Now that I got his shot I can take him to Petco/feed store to search out what he thinks smells best, and will be healthy for him. I also have been socializing him as much as possible. Walked him around vet office. Let him sniff the grown lab in the vets office and they got along. He was happy with the vet, and didn't even notice the shot cause they gave him a treat. Well after putting the Pancur-C into his food he took a couple of nibbles and then didn't touch it. I added water (Which I boil and then leave out all night to clear worms and chlorine from it) he wouldn't touch it. So I figured he wasn't hungry. I came home from work and tried feeding again. Still nothing, so I added milk to it and he gobbled it down. The next morning, before vet visit, he took a couple of nibbles and nothing else. Added milk, and still nothing. On lunch I went home, and he took a few nibbles, and then stopped. I took him outside and he went to the bathroom. The stool was hard, but then there was a mucus like discharge after the poop (No blood). Still would not eat more then a few bites. That night I feed him, and he only took a few bites once again. He will gobble down treats and drinks water as normal. When I first brought him home I could put a treat in his bowl (to teach him that his food was there) and he would eat the whole bowl. Also because his belly was bloated to the size of a melon, I added garlic to his food. Which helped his stomach go down to normal after a few hours and kept the worms under control till vet visit. Also I put the Borat powder on his poop afterwards to keep him from getting hookworms again until next vet visit.
I mainly need to know if I should call the vet to have him checked again, or does he just not like his food anymore because I don't add garlic powder to it? He is still skin and bones, and it says for his age he should get 3/4 cups a day. With him being very skinny (Can see hip bones, and ribcage. They are very prominent and protruding) I feed him double that until he gets to looking like he is healthier. He pooped twice since yesterday and no mucus after that either. Just the first poop after dewormer.

ANSWER: Hi Will - Boy --- this pup is lucky to have you!  GREAT job you are doing !
Ok, let's get a little better food mixed into the one you are using now.  LOOK for :
Innova PUPPY, Solid Gold puppy brand, Wellness Puppy, Merrick puppy food,  all found at a local pet store or feed and seed farm store.  ( Mix the old food and the new food for at least 3 weeks before you go 100% to the new food)

Please get this baby on some Probiotics - how about 1 billion CFUS of Acidophalus - you can find this at any Walgreens or CVS in the vitamin - supplement area for humans.
Give 1 per day for 60 days.  ( helps to get rid of the x-tra yeast in the system)

Last - all my pitbull clients take at least 1 NuVET wafer per day - HELPS to re-build the poor immune system and fights off infection .... Helps to keep the ears clean and healthy by reducing allergy inflammation.  NuVET is a skin and coat healer and allergy Blaster.

QUESTION: I went to petco and found Blue Buffalo which is a Holistic no filler food. Also I bought some Wild Alasken Salmon oil. Last night he ate a few bites. Then went back to stealing the cat food. So we put a bit of cat food in with his, and he ate a bit more. Then this morning we did just his old and new food with some salmon oil and he ate the whole bowl. I will look for the probotics today. Also I bought a can of the solid gold can food to put on top to help him eat. Is the Blue Buffalo a good quality like the others, and will mixing the solid gold into his food make him a picky eater?

Answer
Pittie Puppies, pitbull puppy feeding; NuVET for your Pitbull;

HOW are doing?  HOW's the PUPPY

Blue Buffalo dog food is fine.  Good choice!  Sure, you can place some Solid Gold canned food ontop of the dry.  Try not to give too much cat food, as cat food is high in proteins.
BEST wishes...
