Question
Hi again.
I took my cat Sally to the vet and sadly, she does have kidney failure. We've got special cat food and are loving her more than ever, she is 19 we've got to remember that. I'd be grateful if you could suggest any natural remedy's to make her feel better.

Thankyou,
Sophie

Answer
Hello Sophie -

I am very sorry to hear of your cats diagnosis. I was pretty certain that was going to be the end result.

I know you mentioned special food but I will warn you if it is Hill's Science Diet. Although this food is precribed by vertinarians for various pet health concerns many have found that prolonged use of Hill's Science Diet has caused kideney stones and urinary problems in their pets. Please research this before you begin a long regimen of the blend. Listed as safe, vaious blends contain preservatives and can actually damage the kidneys over a period of time rather then assist with its healing.

I have recommended natural brand foods to my clients and use a brand called Nutro myself. My cat had IBD which I treated her for and had good results with herbs but she still had problems with diarrhea. I switched her fod to Nutro and have never had any problems since. Natural foods will say that they contain no preservatives, by-products, fillers or chemicals and most can be purchased from your local pet store at the same cost as prescription foods. I urge you to look into these brands for your pets good overall health.

Be sure to check the Phosphorus levels in your cats foods and treats, sometimes high levels of this supplement will increase kidney ailments. This becomes a problem when there not enough necessary Calcium within the body to process the excess phosphorus.

I make a tonice for pets that suffer from early stages of kidney failure and disease. You would give your pet 1 (one) teaspoon twice a day between meals. The herbs in the blend will help with kidney support, immune support and will also aid with good circulation which is necessary for pets with kindey problems. I will leave my contact information at the bottom of this response if you are interested. The tonic will act as a diuretic and will also help decrease internal inflammation. It is most important to focus of good circulation throughout the kidneys when an animal has kidney concerns. If circulation is poor, symptoms will increase and will cause further damage.

Be sure to leave a lot of fresh water availble for your pet. You will want to constantly keep her system flushed.

Given the age of your pet, I would avoid medications with fear of further internal damage, as some medications can cause ailments arising from the liver.

Love is the best remedy of all - you have been fortunate to have your cat as long as you have and she has lived a full and loved life. Keep her comfortable at all times. Try adding a couple drops of Lavender Oil to her favorite blanket, bed or resting place. Lavender will help calm her down and soothe her emotions which will allow for full peaceful slumber.

I hope this information has helped you and your pet and know that you both are in my prayers. Please feel free to contact me anytime if you have further questions and keep me posted on her condition.
