bland diet for large breed puppy w/diarrhia

Question
My 5-month old golden has always had a loose stool and now she has diarrhea unless I feed her W/D and put her on metronidizole for 5 days or so to get her better.  My vet doesn't want to keep her on W/D but I have tried Eukenuba. Iams and Ionovva and nothing stops her from getting sick except W/D.

Is there another dog food more appropriate for puppies I can give her that is like W/D but formulated for growing dogs?

Thanks so much.

Answer
Hi Willa, Yes - I have some recipes for your gal - Feed 3 small meals per day:
Also, you will need to add a metamucil cookie 1/2 per day and 1 NuVET supplement per day:
After about 1 month you can try her on some Wellness Dog ( puppy ) food or Innova puppy food.

Recipes:

Chicken Dinner

1/2 cup cooked rice or pasta
1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese or **** low fat for a puppy.....
1/2 skinless chicken breast meat, poached and shredded
1/4 cup steamed vegetables, cubed ( No onions.....)
Mix rice and cottage cheese in a medium sized dog dish. Add chicken and veggies. Make sure you use 1 NuVET vitamin per day : see below to order

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hamburger Dinner

1/2 cup cooked rice or pasta
1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese or low fat is fine.
1/2 lean hamburger meat, fat drained and crumbled
1/4 cup steamed vegetables, cubed
Mix rice and cottage cheese in a medium sized dog dish. Add hamburger and veggies.
Again, please give this pup 1 NuVET supplement per day:  ( to balance out the meal)

Veggie Dinner

1/2 cup cooked rice or pasta
1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese or low fat is fine
1/2 cup steamed vegetables, cubed
Mix rice and cottage cheese in a medium sized dog dish. Add veggies. Sprinkle with crushed dog vitamins.
USE NuVET wafer - 1 per day for your sized pup

NuVET can be ordered here:  Not sold in stores: Make sure you call in for the 60 Day money back guarantee when you mention PET NURSE Marie -

NUVET will help this kid's digestion.

Last - Metamucil cookies - only 1/2 to 1 full cookie per day will add bulk to the stools.
Start with 1/2 per day - it should help a bunch.
Metamucil is made for humans but many of my doggie clients have great luck with it.
Very safe for your baby.
Apple or Cin flavored.

I sure hope you can get her off the W/D Hill's Junk...
Let's feed her 3 x per day of the bland diets above.
You can give a little less or a little more - depends on how hungery she seems.
HOME feeding is not concrete, and you need to work with the amounts.

Keep me posted.  I am here for you two!
